Montrose Baptist Church




History

Organized in 1917, Montrose Baptist was an outreach of LaSalle Avenue Baptist Church.  It was known as the Montrose Baptist Mission.  The first Sunday School was held on Easter Sunday 1917 in a building kitty corner from the current site. 

In 1922 the mission was organized as an independent Baptist Church.  In 1928 the ground breaking took place for the current building.  Located at the corner of Montrose and Melvina Avenues in Chicago, Illinois. 

Over the many years since then God has richly blessed the people and ministries of Montrose Baptist Church. Some other important dates in the history of Montrose Baptist include: 

  • 1950 - Our first mortgage burning
  • 1972 - Fifty year anniversary
  • 1968-75 - Building program for the multi-purpose facility
  • 1987 - Mortgage burning for the multi-purpose facility
  • 1997 - Seventy-fifth anniversary
