"A Lighthouse in our Community"

Montrose Baptist Church

Montrose Baptist Church
Membership Covenant

Having received Christ as my Lord and Savior, having been baptized as a confessing believer, and being in agreement with the Montrose Baptist Church Affirmation of Faith, I now feel led by the Holy Spirit to unite with the Montrose Baptist Church (MBC) family.  In doing so, I solemnly commit to God and to the MBC family to do the following:

          1)  I will protect the unity of my church . . .

. . . by acting in love toward other members.
. . . by refusing to gossip or to maliciously slander others.
. . . by following the leadership in as much as they follow the dictates of God’s Word.

NIV Romans 14:19
“Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification.”

NIV 1 Peter 1:22
“Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart.”

 NIV Ephesians 4:29
"Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.”

NIV Hebrews 13:17
“Obey your leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you as men who must give an account. Obey them so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no advantage to you.”

           2)  I will share the responsibility of my church . . .
. . . by praying for its growth.
. . . by inviting the unchurched to attend.
. . . by warmly welcoming those who visit.

                          NIV 1 Thessalonians 1:1
“Paul, Silas and Timothy, To the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the
Lord Jesus Christ: Grace and peace to you. 2 We always thank God for all of you,
                     mentioning you in our prayers.”

NIV Matthew 28:19
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

NIV Luke 14:23
"Then the master told his servant, 'Go out to the roads and country lanes and make them come in, so that my house will be full.”

NIV Romans 15:7
“Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.”

 3)  I will serve the ministry of my church . . .

. . . by discovering my gifts and talents.

. . . by being equipped to serve through the preaching and teaching ministry of the church.

                        . . . by developing a servant’s heart.

                   NIV 1 Peter 4:10-11
“Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering
God's grace in its various forms. 11 If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the

very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that
in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for
                    ever and ever. Amen.”

 NIV Ephesians 4:11-13
“It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, 12 to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.”

NIV Philippians 2:1-5
“If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, 2 then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. 3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. 4 Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. 5 Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus.”

           4)  I will support the testimony of my church . . .

                         . . . by attending faithfully.

                        . . . by living a godly life.

                        . . . by giving regularly.

Hebrews 10:24-25
“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. 25 Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another-- and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

NIV Philippians 1:27
“Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ.”

NIV Ephesians 4:1
“I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.”

NIV 1 Corinthians 16:2
“On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with his income.”

NIV Leviticus 27:30
"'A tithe of everything from the land . . . belongs to the LORD; it is holy to the LORD.”
