"A Lighthouse in our Community"

Montrose Baptist Church

Our Philosophy of Ministry

Our Purpose & Mission:
Why does our church exist?  What is God’s purpose for us?  What mission did Christ give us?

Our Discipleship Process:
What is a disciple?  How are disciples made?  How do church programs facilitate discipleship?

Our Great Commitments:
What was Jesus committed to? What did He instruct His followers to do prior to His return?

Our Family Values:
What values should characterize our life together as a church?  How can we best accomplish our mission and remain healthy, vital, and strong?

Our Unique Calling:
At this time, in this place, among this people, what is God calling us to do?  What will it look like in 2010?   2015?

We exist to glorify God by making disciples who know, grow, and go.

The Great Commandment
“Love God.  Love People.”

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.'  'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these."  – Mark 12:30-31

1.  Loving God (Worship)
       Gladly reflecting back to God
       the radiance of His glory
       through prayer and praise.
We worship the Father in Spirit
and Truth, in word and deed.

2.  Loving Others (Service)
The overflow of joy in God that
       gladly meets the needs of
others.  We seek to bless the
       whole person:  Body, Labor,
       Emotional, Social, Spiritual.

The Great Commission
“Make Disciples.”

“Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”

- Matthew 28:19-20

3.  Simplicity
       Disciple-making is a church-
       wide process characterized by
       clarity, movement, alignment
       and focus.  Complexity breeds
       confusion and kills growth.

4.  Nurturing Relationships
       Only God generates growth,
       but nurturing relationships in
small groups are the best soil
       to cultivate growth in Christ.

The Great Companion
“You Will Receive Power.”

“You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”  - Acts 1:8

5.  Courage & Creativity
A ship in harbor is safe, but
that is not what ships are
made for.  The Spirit fills our
sails as we leave the harbor,
going into stormy seas on a
       mission of search and rescue.

6.  Leadership Development
      & Reproduction
       Every disciple has been shaped
       for service.  By training leaders
       we maximize our resources
       and multiply our impact.
